Culion Foundation Inc. planted 5,000 mangroves in Culion, Palawan through the GForest Project

Twenty-three (23) GCash GForest project beneficiaries and Youth Eco-warriors planted 5,000 Bakhaw Babae (Rhizophora mucronata) mangrove seedlings in Barangay Galoc, Culion, Palawan on July 20-21, 2023. This activity covered approximately 2 hectares of the reforestation site in Sitio Canimango.

In partnership with the BLGU officials of Barangay Luac and the Baldat Fisherfolk and Farmers’ Association (BAFFA), Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) through the GForest project aims to deliver an additional 10,000 mangroves as part of the total target of 75,000 mangroves planted at the end of 2023.

The CFI-GCash GForest Mangrove Project engages the BLGU, GAD Focal, women and fisherfolk sectors to raise environmental awareness and provide alternative source of income to local communities and stakeholders in Culion by becoming partners in the maintenance and monitoring of the mangrove reforestation and rehabilitation sites.
