Empowering Peoples Organizations for Sustainable Development in Culion, Palawa
The Culion Foundation Inc. (CFI), the pioneering civil society organization (CSO) in Culion, Palawan, aims to strengthen the capacity of peoples organizations (POs) in driving bottom-up approaches to attain inclusive growth and sustainable development for the municipality. An empowered PO is a strategic partner in ensuring the continuity and scalability of the Foundation’s projects on health, environment, and community development given their strong community presence, an armament of local knowledge and expertise, and shared social relationships with the community.
The EmPOwer to Sustain program will leverage the opportunity opened up by the GCash-funded community-based mangrove rehabilitation project wherein POs will be formed, capacitated, and provided with alternative livelihoods to alleviate poverty and reduce dependency on vulnerable ecosystems.Through a series of capacity-building workshops, CFI will equip POs with essential skills and resources such as leadership and organizational development and thereby guide them to contribute effectively to long-term community development. In collaboration with POs, CFI will also carry out social development activities such as the conduct of health caravans and feeding programs. Anticipated outcomes include strengthened organizational capabilities of POs and the community actively owning and leading the implementation of development projects ultimately fostering self-reliance as well as resulting in improved socio-economic conditions for communities in Culion.
